Balearic House
Emerging in the late 1980s and very popular during the 1990s, Balearic house (respectively Ibiza house or Balearic beat) is a rather relaxed style of electronic dance music, combining house beats with atmospheric, calm melodies, acoustic instruments like Spanish guitar, flutes and often vocals, conveying a relaxed and summery Mediterranean feel. Its name originates from its popularity among nightclub djs on the Balearic island of Ibiza like DJ Alfredo, , resident dj at »Amnesia«, who is considered as »Father of Balearic Beat«.
Today, Balearic house is associated with genres like chillout, downbeat/downtempo, lounge and even ambient.
