Children's Music
Children's music is music especially composed for children. Being positive or uplifting it is not only funny and entertaining but very often pursues educational purposes, teaching children in a playful way about e.g. facts, skills and good behavior.
While children's songs like nursery rhymes, Mother Goose rhymes or lullabies often have been passed on over centuries, early publications of commercial children's music can be found in the late 19th/early 20th century and traced down to New York City's Tin Pan Alley, like »Ten little fingers and ten little toes« by Ira Shuster and Edward G. Nelson. Over the 20th century children's music became a big and important part of the music industry with successful products like US-American animated virtual band Alvin and the Chipmunks (created in 1958), the highly acclaimed music from TV show Sesame Street (launched in 1969) or later numerous Disney features.
Children's music compositions are usually catchy and simple as they are intended to be easy to memorize and sing along. Often they feature instruments which can be played by children as first instruments like glockenspiel, recorder or ukulele.
