Disco House
Disco house is a combination of modern house music with classic disco elements of the 1970s and 1980s. Sometimes confused with nu disco, disco house – like house in general – lacks the traditional song structure and relies rather on samples instead of newly performed or programmed instruments.
One of the first using disco samples was British house dj and producer Joey Negro (now known as Dave Lee), but the first disco house hit was »Ride on Time« by Italian Band Black Box in 1989, using vocal samples by Loleatta Holloway from her 1980 disco hit »Love Sensation«. Another notable hit of the genre was 2000's »Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)« by Italian dj/producer Spiller (featuring then unknown British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor), using samples from Carol Williams’ »Love Is You« (1977).
Disco house was quite popular around 2000, as was its close relative funky house. As the name says, funky house uses more samples from classic funk records. One of the biggest hits was German producer Mousse T.'s »Horny '98«, featuring a brass sample from Earth, Wind & Fire's »Something Special« (1983).
