Personal means you use the music as a private individual and don’t earn money with your project. Typical examples are holiday and family videos, wedding and birthday films, hobby videos, and projects for school, training or university. You may publish your videos anywhere – on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook – as long as they are not monetized.

You may shorten, loop, fade the tracks in and out and mix them with voice or effects.
What’s not allowed
- Any commercial use
e.g. advertising, corporate and product videos, company websites and social media, in-store music, trade fairs, corporate events, and projects by agencies or freelancers for clients. - Monetized content
Videos or channels with ad revenue (e.g. YouTube Partner Program), sponsored posts, influencer partnerships and podcasts with ads. - Reselling and sublicensing
The tracks may not be redistributed or resold as music, or offered in music libraries, sample packs or download portals. - Claiming the music as your own
No uploads to streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music & co.) and no registration with Content ID or any collecting society. - Prohibited content
No use in content that violates applicable law or is racist, glorifies violence, is discriminatory or pornographic.

FAQ
What counts as commercial use?
Rule of thumb: as soon as a project earns money, promotes a company, product or service, or is made on behalf of a client, it is commercial. This also includes monetized YouTube channels and paid social media partnerships.
My YouTube channel is monetized. Can I still use the tracks?
No. Monetized content requires a license. You’ll find the right one in our licenses section – that way you’re on the safe side.
Is the music really royalty-free?
Yes. No fees are due to collecting societies such as GEMA, PRS, ASCAP or BMI for the tracks on this page.
Do I get an invoice or license certificate?
Not for the free tracks – the terms on this page apply. If you need official proof (e.g. for a client, broadcaster or platform) or want to use the music without a credit, please license the track via our music catalog.

“Free” means you don’t pay for the use – here for personal and non-commercial projects. “Royalty-free” means no ongoing fees are due to collecting societies such as GEMA, PRS or ASCAP, because the composers don’t have their works administered by them. And strictly speaking, there is no such thing as “license-free music” – every use requires permission (a license) from the rights holder.
