Dream House
Despite its name, dream house actually is a subgenre of trance (therefore, it's often also called dream trance or Ibiza trance), having its heyday in the second half of the 1990s. It's considered though to be the first offspring of progressive house, incorporating elements of house and Eurodance.
Dream house was created in Italy in the early 1990s when the country saw high weekly deaths of clubbers due to car accidents after raves. Djs began to end their sets with slower and calmer music that the audience would wind down from the energy of the evening.
The most famous dream house track is »Children«, the debut single by Italian dj and producer Robert Miles released in 1996. Miles is considered as founder of the genre and this track is kind of a dream house blueprint: a catchy, dreamy-melancholic melody played by an acoustic instrument (here like often piano) and a relatively slow yet danceable beat, resulting in a repetitive trance-like melody and a simple rhythm structure with a house-like progression and beat.
