Electro House
Electro house is a house music style which was born end of the 1990s and is commonly seen as a fusion of house and electro. Tracks are typically around 130 bpm and featuring a heavy, »dirty« bass. With striking basslines and screaming synth riffs, electro house has a close relation to tech house but contains more melodic elements, electro-influenced synths and sometimes vocal samples.
An early example of electro house is Mr. Oizo's hit »Flat Beat« from 1999. 2002's »Satisfaction« by dj/producer Benny Benassi can be seen as a precursor which paved the way for the genre's commercial and mainstream success. Electro house pioneers are e.g. German duo Digitalism, known for their track »Idealistic« (2004), and French duo Justice, known for their rock-influenced electronic tracks. In 2006, with »Put Your Hands Up For Detroit« by Dutch dj/producer Fedde Le Grand an electro house track reached No. 1 in the UK charts. Canadian producer/dj deadmau5 helped to increase the genre's popularity in North America. Highly successful electro house artists today are from the USA like Skrillex and especially Steve Aoki.
Electro house is one of the most popular genres at Belgian electronic dance music festival »Tomorrowland« and has several subgenres like big room house, complextro, dirty house (also known as dirty Dutch or Dutch house), fidget house and moombahton.
